The 4th and 5th graders created a collaborative clay project inspired by the monarch butterfly. Students sculpted ceramic butterflies after learning about the monarch's importance to the ecosystem and its current status as an endangered species. Students studied monarch wing patterns and will then create their own unique wing designs. All of their ceramic butterflies are displayed in a collaborative sculpture where the ceramic butterflies suspended from the ceiling in a work that will evoke the migratory flight of the monarch.
