Raku & Radiance Monthly Workshops  - Get fired up at Artisan’s Asylum

with Shirah and her raku team.

What is raku? Raku is a ceramic firing process that involves removing the pieces from an outdoor kiln while they are still glowing hot and placing them in a chamber with combustible materials so that when the matter burns creating an oxygen-deprived environment. The rapid cooling process and lack of oxygen results in a crackled glaze and unique color patterns that are typical of Raku pottery. It started in 16th century Japan and was adapted in the US in the 1960s. This atmospheric firing method encourages you to embrace the element of surprise and the wabi-sabi philosophy. Join us for this dynamic experience!
